Persistent interaction patterns across social media platforms and over time. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38509370/)

These scientists wanted to understand how people behave on social media platforms and how they talk to each other. They looked at conversations happening on different social media platforms over many years to see if there were any patterns in how people were talking to each other. They found that no matter which platform people were using, the topic of conversation, or the time period, there were consistent patterns in how people communicated. They also discovered that longer conversations tended to have more negative or toxic language, but this didn't always stop people from joining in. They also found that when people had different opinions, it often led to more intense and sometimes hostile discussions. This study shows that human behavior plays a big role in how people talk to each other online, even as social media platforms and society change over time.
