An oral antiviral for Ebola disease. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38484073/)
These scientists wanted to find a way to help people who have been exposed to dangerous viruses like the Sudan virus and Ebola virus. So, they decided to do a study to see if a new medicine could help protect against these viruses.
First, they gathered a group of people who had been exposed to the viruses. Then, they gave some of them the new medicine and others a fake medicine called a placebo. They wanted to see if the people who took the new medicine were less likely to get sick from the viruses.
After a few weeks, the scientists checked to see how many people in each group got sick. They found that the people who took the new medicine were much less likely to get sick compared to those who took the fake medicine. This is really good news because it means the new medicine could help protect people from these dangerous viruses.
