These scientists wanted to understand how a special type of cells in our body, called B cells, figure out if something is dangerous in our intestines. To do this, they looked at how the B cells react to different things that they might encounter in the intestines. They did experiments to see how the B cells respond when they come into contact with different substances. By studying these reactions, the scientists were able to learn more about how B cells help protect our bodies from harmful things in our intestines.
