Fusion of deterministically generated photonic graph states. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38720079/)
These scientists wanted to create really powerful quantum states using light and atoms. They used a special device called an optical resonator that had two atoms inside that they could control individually. They were able to make complex entangled states called ring and tree graph states with up to eight qubits. These states are like really complicated puzzles where all the pieces are connected in a special way.
The scientists were able to do this by making the atoms interact inside the resonator, which helped them combine the individual qubits into bigger and stronger quantum states. This technique could be used in the future to create even larger quantum states, which could be important for things like building a super-fast quantum internet.
