Neuronal dynamics direct cerebrospinal fluid perfusion and brain clearance. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38418877/)
These scientists wanted to understand how the brain cleans itself. They found that the brain creates big waves of ions that help remove waste. They used special techniques to control these waves in the brains of mice. When they stopped the waves, the waste removal process slowed down. But when they made the waves stronger using light, the waste removal process sped up. This study shows that brain cells are like bosses that control the cleaning of the brain. It gives us a new way to think about how the brain works as a whole.
