Growth of diamond in liquid metal at 1 atm pressure. (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38658760/)

These scientists wanted to find a new way to grow diamonds without using seeds. Diamonds are usually formed deep within the Earth under extreme heat and pressure, but these scientists found a way to grow them in a lab at much lower pressure and temperature. They used a special liquid metal made of gallium, iron, nickel, and silicon. By adding methane and carbon atoms to the liquid metal, they were able to create the conditions needed for diamonds to form. This discovery opens up new possibilities for growing diamonds in a different and more controlled way.
