These scientists had a big idea about finding new materials that are very thin, like a sheet of paper. They used their knowledge and theories to predict many different thin materials that could exist. Then, they did experiments and tests to see if these predicted materials could actually be made in real life. They found that some of their predictions were correct, and they discovered new materials that could be used for different purposes.
